Easter Round Up

Well a pleasant Easter all round, Golf Friday, Golf Saturday, Sid’s Sunday and a severe hangover Monday, so missed golf and spent the afternoon in front of the TV.
Highlight No.1. of the weekend was a very sunny and warm 18 holes on Friday with Steve W and his partner Nikki made all the more memorable by Nikki splitting her trousers 4 holes from the end and having to finish without exposing herself – unfortunately she managed to maintain her modesty and won the match.

Highlight No.2 was the return of Doctor Who on the TV on Saturday night, absolutely brilliant and apparently generated an audience of 10 million and I suspect 9 million of those were over the age of 40. I clearly remember watching the first series in 1964 and can remember the first appearance of the Cybermen which frightened the life out of me. Was it more frightening because it was in black and white or because I was only 8 years old. Its funny but as soon as the title music started on Saturday, I still felt that same excitement/fear that I would get 40 years ago. – sad eh?

Highlight No.3 was an extremely large Easter Lunch that was complimented by a huge quantity of red wine provided courtesy of S&D and enjoyed in the company of aforementioned Steve W. & Nikki, I don’t seem to remember much more except D's chocalate cake. I certainly couldn’t make the 9.00am T time we had booked for the Monday morning.

And finally Highlight No.4 was an email from my son who tells me the he’s really enjoying his holiday and that Lagos is, err, – interesting, and hot. He has promised to send pictures which I will posts asap.

Good Luck Dom

My son Dominic regualrly reads this blog at school, however he is currently in Lagos, Nigeria spending the Easter Hols with his girlfriend, who's parents work there. I'm sure he will have internet access so he will see this message:

Happy Easter, Have a great time, email me, I love you and KEEP YOUR HEAD DOWN!

What does Easter mean to you?

I read in the Mail yesterday that a poll was taken from 15-25 year olds on what was the meaning of Easter. 53% of those questioned were unable to explain Good Friday or Easter Sunday and most of them thought it was "for getin easter eggs init"
However I wonder where the poll was taken, if it was Southall, Leicester or Birmingham the result is hardly suprising as celebrating Easter does not feature highly on the Muslim calender, nor I suspect does Religious instruction go down well at the inner city estate based schools with a majority proportion being muli cultural and multi relgion. What was more concerting was that 60% had never heard of Winston Churchill ("e's that dog of the telly ad inhe?")
Easter to me, appart from its religious relevence, means 2 extra days Golf, a get together with family and friends and avoiding chocolate at all costs and probably 'Exodus' on the TV on Sunday afternoon. (Bit like Christmas really)

How to win friends etc.

Celine calls her audiences sleepy drunks

Celine Dion has admitted that audiences at her Las Vegas show are often tired, drunk, sick and in some cases asleep.Dion says her current stint as a regular performer in at the city's Caesar's Palace Colosseum means that for the first time in her career she's often not playing to fans.
The 36-year-old singer whose latest run of her A New Day shows at the Colosseum has just opened, told the Chicago Sun-Times, "When I started here, I told myself 'I'm not gonna expect anything. That only leaves you open to disappointment.
"It's how I've been all my life. As artists, we have to accept that this is a very different town (in which) to see a concert.
"People come here for four days, they eat too much, drink too many free drinks, they get sick from all that, they are jet-lagged sometimes so they just sit in the seat and sleep."As an entertainer, you have to be prepared for everything when it comes to the audience here. When you tour, people come there specifically that night to see you.
"They bought their tickets months and months ago. Here, they walk up to the box office an hour before the show. It's a very different kind of audience."

Sir Elton John also recently signed a contract to perform regular shows at the venue.

Lets face it you'd have to be drunk, stoned, mental, bored, asleep or just plain stupid to sit through a Celine Dione concert

Local News

After yet another excellent round of golf on Saturday morning ( made all the better by being able to play in short sleeves and back off the grass tee's) and then an even more excellent afternoons rugby, a party of 8 eight of us ventured over the border to dine at the opening night of the Palm, the new Indian restaurant that was formerly the Klondike after Froxfield. This was really most enjoyable, the food, decor and interior design quite unlike any Indian restaurant i've been to before and can thoroughly recomend a visit.
The ING Direct advert filmed in Hungerford is on the TV now and unless you had to put up with the hassel for the 5 days it took to film the 30 second advert you wouldn’t know it was Hungerford, they could have done it in a studio and saved us all a lot of trouble.
Good to see the new F1 rules are working well making the races more watchable and closely fought, I’m looking forward to the European rounds.

The Dragon Roars

Well a deserved win for Wales and a fitting end to the 6 Nations tournament with England winning the Calcutta cup, and an even more enjoyable visit to the bookies on Sunday morning to collect my winnings! Unfortunately I have to admit to being a sad git having watched every one of the 15 matches over the passed five weeks and told Bin I was rugby'd out however I couldn't resist a peak at the Hong Kong 7's yesterday.
The Best match- France v Wales, player of the tournament Dwayne Peel and I beleive someone who deserves a place in the forthcoming Lions tour. Well that's Rugby done for a couple of months until the summer tour in New Zealand except to say that we wish a speedy recovery to Matt Hampson, the England under 21 who broke his neck in a training accident, it will be a sad loss if he is unable to play again.

Red Faced Day

In case you hadn't noticed, I am not posting at presemt due to heavy work commitments and I haven't got a lot to say, except that I was slightly pissed off to read this week that £100,000 of comic relief money is to be given to UK pikey travellers to help them fight councils over planning applications. I thought the money was raised to help the needy in Africa! They spent the whole evening showing clips from Ethiopia, that's the last time I donate to red nose day!

Only one more to go

Well that was a walk in the park for Wales as The Scots took a humiliating bashing at their home ground 45-22, the largest defeat since 1978, but still put up a valient fight in the second round. Still thats now only Ireland between me and the bookies, and next Saturday at Cardiff will be a mighty clash but the Welsh must not expect anyything like Murrayfield. The Irish will make it as hard as possible for them
A beautiful Saturday morning saw a beautfiul round of golf, one of those rare ones where everything went right except on two holes where I struck out with nil points which was enough to put me out of contention for the competition.

Ron's view on filming

Going back to my gripe about the film crew in Hungerford, for those that did not read it here's Ron Tarry's posting from this weeks NWN.
RON TARRY ’S Hungerford
Filming a headache for the townspeople.

THERE are rumours that the ING Direct advertisement being filmed in Hungerford is costing £1,000,000, and in view of the equipment and the number of technicians and extras on duty, I would not be surprised at the figure. Unfortunately, the filming has caused inconvenience, while the towns people have also suffered owing to the loss of parking and difficulty in reaching the shops. The necessity for filming to
move the bus stop to a less convenient spot has also caused problems. The town bus service is largely used by older people, who have not enjoyed standing and waiting in the High Street in the bitterly cold weather, without the benefit of the shelter and seats which are available at the usual bus stop. And still it goes on, as on Sunday, after the filming should have been completed, the High Street was still grid-locked. Who gave permission without giving the townspeople a chance to express their views? I hope that some of the huge sum of money involved will go to those who have been inconvenienced.

Here Here Ron!

Ah Middle age

My Father was 85 on Sunday and he is as fit as he was 20 years ago and looks 10 years younger than he is. I mentioned this to my son who proclaimed 'Does that mean you're going to live as long' I hope so I replied, 'Shit' he said 'I was hoping to get you into a home when you are 60' you'd better start saving now then son.
I got to thinking that even if my Dad makes 90, at 47 I am passed middle age so surely now is the time to start behaving badly and do something rash, go out an buy a Harley Davidson, have an affair with a 22 year old Swedish Masseuse, have highlights put in my hair and wear leather trousers, get a tattoo or pierce my navel.
I mentioning this to Bin, she said that I should forget the Swedish masseuse as I probably couldn't even ride the Harley without a leg up!
And there I was thinking life begins at 50 ( although it's usually 49 year olds who try to convince one of this)

This is going too far

Welsh rugby fan cuts off testicles after win
LONDON (Reuters) - A Welsh rugby fan cut off his own testicles to celebrate Wales beating England at rugby, the Daily Mirror has reported.
Geoff Huish, 26, was so convinced England would win Saturday's match he told fellow drinkers at a social club, "If Wales win I'll cut my balls off", the paper said on Tuesday. Friends at the club in Caerphilly, south Wales, thought he was joking.
But after the game Huish went home, severed his testicles with a knife, and walked 200 metres back to the bar with the testicles to show the shocked drinkers what he had done.
Huish was taken to hospital where he remained in a seriously ill condition, the paper said. Police told the paper he had a history of mental problems.
Wales's 11-9 victory over England at the Millennium Stadium in Cardiff was their first home win over England in 12 years.

What the Hell's he going to do if Wales Beat Ireland at Cardiff?

Ouch!

Severed penis retrieved from toilet is reattached

ANCHORAGE, Alaska (Reuters) - A 44-year-old Anchorage man has had his penis surgically reattached after it was cut off by an angry girlfriend and flushed down a toilet, local police say.
The events unfolded about midnight on Saturday, after the pair had been arguing over an impending breakup, an Anchorage Police Department statement said on Sunday. At some point, the two decided to have sex and the man agreed to let the woman tie his arms to a windowsill.
But the woman used a kitchen knife to amputate her partner's penis and flushed it down the toilet, police said. She untied the man, drove him to a local hospital and was cleaning up the bloody scene when police arrived at the home, according to the statement.
Summoned by the police, workers from the local water utility pulled the toilet up from the floor and were able to recover the severed penis, which was rushed to the hospital for the successful reattachment surgery on Sunday morning.
Police declined to identify the victim, but said his assailant was 35-year-old Kim Tran. She was charged with assault, domestic violence and tampering with evidence, and jailed without bail.

Right Lads some advice - do not let your partner tie you to windowsills and do not keep kithchen knives in the toilet!

I got that wrong then

Well a completely different F1 at Melborne, I take it all back, not a Schmacher in sight although a Ferrari still managed to sneak through, however, good to see Renault back on the podium, even though they are French they have an English designer. I hope we see a differnt team win throughout the series and we'll find out if Red Bull really does give you wings.

Nice Golf yesterday, first real spring day, cold but sunny. The course is still a bit damp in places and a couple of the greens have taken a bit of a battering but the fairways are in good nick and beware, the new bunker on the 6th is now in play! So drive short and pitch high.

Here we go again- vroomm

well we're about to start another round of Formula 1 racing, believe it or not this is the 19th year of Bernie Ecclestone's F1's format and I used o be an ardent fan, never missing a single race throughout the series. That was 10-12 years ago when a third of the field was British and the stars were Nigel Mansell and Ayreton Senna, the grid was made up of Brits: Johnny Herbert, Damon Hill, Eddie Irvine (ok Irish) a fresh Coultard, Mark Blundell, martin Brundle etc. The series no longer has any excitement and as for British teams, they have become like Arsenal who manage to field a side without including a single British Player - not bad for a London club! so we can look forward to 22 rounds of boring Ferreira wins, think I'll give it a miss and play golf instead. For a light hearted look at Formula one go to FORMULA 1 REJECTS

.

Well that explains it

Thankks to Steve W for this:
Edward was at school this morning and the teacher asked all the children what there fathers did for a living.
All the typical answers came out,Fireman, Policeman salesman, chippy, etc, but Edward was being uncharacteristically quiet and so the teacher asked him about his father.
'My fathers an exotic dancer in a gay club and takes off all his clothes in front of other men. Sometimes if the offer is really good, he'll go out with a man, rent a cheap hotel room and let them sleep with him."
The teacher quickly set the other children some work and took little Edward aside to ask him if that was really true.
"No" said Edward" He plays Rugby for England but I was just to embarrassed to say"
