10 days to go

OK so as I'm not going to be playing Golf until next year (hopefully) and my Knee operation scheduled for the end of September, and with a 4-6 month recovery period I'm going to have some time on my hands. ne plan will be to finish the book whilst I'm in hospital the other will be to watch the entire Rugby World cup on TV.
Unfortunately having watched the warm up matches with France beating England and Wales over the last couple of weeks and SA smashing the Scots defence. I don't hold out a lot of hope.
I haven't seen the Kiwi or All Blacks in action yet but I hear they are awesome.
I think we are fielding the strongest squad that was available to Aston, but our gameset seriously need attention and with 10 days to go I think we will be lucky to get passed ther quater finals - unless we draw Wales on Oct 6th, the alternatives will be SA or Australia in which case it will be an early plane home.
My money is on the All Blacks this time.

Well at least the sun shone

A trip to Twickers yesterday improved my suntan and increased my weekly alcohol units by several hundred percent courtesy of my favourite Guinness bar, unfortunately that was about it.

The filthy French beat us again, though narrowly but with the help of an Irish ref who probably has a holiday home in France. Unfortunately this does not bode well for the start of the World Cup in France next month.

Still we witnessed some good kicking from Oly Barclay and a superb drop goal from Andy Gomersall and it's always good to see Dallaglio on the field. captained by Mike Cat and even a short spell at the end for Johnny Wilkinson. Shame about the final score because we looked like a strong team on paper.

I think it's going to be hard for Aston to pick a squad of just 30 players to go to France and rumour has it that 14 of those are going to be from the last world cup squad, I wonder who those will be? watch this space.

Newbury Weekly News Rant-Again

Ron Tarry's column
'Jazz Forum marks fifth anniversary'
'Town Police Station is safe despite officers move'
'Cows Join fund raising event (Great Bedwyn)'

These are all the items concerning Hungerford in this weeks NWN. More or less the same as any other week. It seems that nothing rally happens in Hungerford according to NWN.
I see we have a new reporter but maybe the regular one is on holiday.
Still no news from the Town Council, no update on their website or no comments from the Chamber of Commerce concerning the 6 empty shops in the town or the future of the Somerfield site.

The main story on the Hungerford page this week is 'County Council wins unitary battle' - Thats not our CC but Kennet District Council and entirely concerns Wiltshire, probably not of much interest to the 5000 residents of Hungerford, West Berkshire.
